This genuine Mercedes part is used to boost the volume of the iPod kit if you find it is too low compared to other sources. It is required on the new W204 C class if you do not have the Harmon Kardon sound system and useful on the other cars, especially with older iPod kits which were noticably quieter than CD / Radio sources.

It is not suitable for W204/W212/W207 (C/E/E-Coupe) iPod kits or for current NTG2 (Pre MY2009 A/B/W203-C/CLC/ML/GL/R) iPod kits.
- It is OK for older NTG2 kits (the once that don't charge new iPods properly)

It isn't necessary for MY2009 A/B/CLC/ML/GL/R/SL/SLK/W211-E/CLS cars with COMAND which, if upgraded to the latest firmware, now have a volume boost function.
