When installing a new map on NTG3.5 (W221 S/CL post model year 2010) and NTG4.5 (W204/R172 MY2011, W207/W212/W166 with SD card, onward) a PIN code is needed. It is the PIN code that is the licence for the map, thus preventing fraudulent repeat installation of a map disk on many vehicles.
