This converter is needed when converting the original button shift mechanism on pre 2005 C55/CLK55, pre 2007 SL55/65, W220 S55/S65, early (pre 05) E55 and the SLR McLaren to the new aluminium paddle shifters.
You can either replace the steering wheel with the newer wheel with paddles, or using the supplied template convert the existing large button plastic surround to hold the newer paddles.
